CAMPING PITCHES

Named as one of Time Out’s best 13 best UK campsites , Wytch Wood Camping is a peaceful retreat surrounded by woodland and wildflowers.  Hidden away in a secluded valley near Crewkerne in South Somerset, Wytch Wood Camping at Blackmore Farm opened its gates for the first time in May 2021.

Log seating is right beside the waterfall and is just for you, along with a fire pit for the evening. It’s position means that it is a bit of a walk to your nearest loo, which will be shared a maximum of one other pitch.

Twisted Hazel

Pitch 11 – Twisted Hazel

This flexible pitch is on the southern edge of the meadow where it meets the trees and is suitable for tents and camper vans.

It takes its name from the huge Ash tree stump with a large hole at its base which stood on this spot – we don’t think it goes to Narnia/Hogwarts, but you never know?

You will have your own dedicated seating area and fire pit, and access to a compost loo which you will share with a maximum of one other pitch. This spot has views over the stream and into the woodland, as well as across the meadow and up across the hills.

Pitch 16 – Birdsong
Unfurnished XL bell tent Sleeps 6 (max 6 adults, 5 children) + Barbecue and seating

We are excited to introduce a different option for your next camping adventure. Not quite glamping, but perfect for those without tents of their own, or who don’t want the hassle of the full set up. You can book our unfurnished, spacious 6m XL bell tent, Birdsong.

Sitting in its own clearing in the ancient woodland, beside a fast flowing, shallow stream, you will have a great spot. Birdsong bell tent will be put up ready for you but you will need to bring all your own equipment (beds, linen etc.).

Along with firepit with grill and cooking tripod, Birdsong also has its own compost loo and you’ll have use of the lovely showers with Faith in Nature products and the communal washups.

An outdoor seating area, tables for kitchen equipment and hammocks give you plenty of choices for relaxing outdoors and listening to the wind in the trees and of course, the birdsong. Some items are available to hire on request – please enquire before booking.

What a stunning campsite. So peaceful and private with lovely large pitches in the woodland. I'm always happy to share facilities but having our own toilet on the pitch was a great bonus! Owner was super friendly and we enjoyed the extras arranged for the jubilee weekend such as a curry night and cream tea. We will definitely return!

Such a beautiful campsite! Elise is really friendly and welcoming and has some exciting things planned for the site. We stayed in our campervan on pitch 6 which was really roomy but private and had great views all around. The toilets where clean and the showers where lovely, warm and powerful. Cant wait to go back 🙂

Whether you are new to camping or more experienced Wytch Wood is definitely for you. Resting in the hollow of Somerset's gentle, rolling hills, with deep woodland on one side and a cafe bar on site, this place has everything. Pitches: these are spaced far apart with loads of room for children to play and explore, and allowing room for wild flowers in between. Each pitch has its own compost toilet - as close to en suite when camping as it gets. The compost loos are clean, smart and odour-free and get cleaned daily. Showers: the hot water comes quickly and remains constant. A curtain across the solid wooden door, which is supplied with solid hooks and a small shelf, ensures your stuff stays dry (I left my sandals outside). Supplies: there's no shop on site but Crewkerne is 10 mins down the road. Local supermarkets will deliver here too. On site activities: Archery and Axe Throwing: run by a confident, relaxed and very experienced guide, this session was one of the highlights of a great week. Both activities work for families. I loved the fact that the session was not time-limited and we could do as much or as little as we wanted. Tiffins in the Woods: a local chef brings them in ready-prepared (you need to order in advance). The food was great quality and very satisfying. I have been to India and this was much more like the genuine cuisine than your average takeaway. Big Bonfire: the big fire bowl is something to see. Surrounded by benches cut from tree trunks it's the perfect place to meet your fellow campers and members of the family, and to sing songs into the night. Bar: selling a selection of local beers and ciders (no spirits) there is plenty of space to chill out and blankets available as the sun sets. There's a book swap and it is a covered area so you can settle down in comfort whatever the weather. Coffee bar: new this year is a coffee bar open from 8am, a must for those of us who need a little boost first thing. Great value too. Wytch Wood Camping worked brilliantly for us. It is lovingly kept by Elise, an energetic and friendly inspiration, who makes time for her guests and clearly loves what she does. I love this site for its unique combination of wilderness-edge and thoughtful care (check out the young trees planted in strategic locations), and the way other local businesses have partnered with them to make a well-rounded holiday experience.
