Dogs

Do you allow dogs at Wytch Wood?

Currently we do not allow dogs at Wytch Wood, other than support dogs. The site is surrounded by woodland and farm land with horses and livestock. We also have our own dogs on the farm which we do not want to encourage onto the site.

But our dog is really small and well behaved, can we bring them?

99% of the time the answer is still no. If it is midweek outside of the school holidays, it may be considered if you are staying in a van. But the dog would have to be on a lead at all times when outside the van. You must check before booking. If you arrive with a dog that we were not made aware of at the time of booking, it is likely that you will not be able to stay.

The Farm’s Horses

There are lots of horses on the farm – can we go for a riding lesson?

Unfortunately not. The horses at Blackmore Farm are all racehorses, young horses and competition horses in training – all very volatile! We do have a family pony, but we are not insured to give lessons.

Can we come and meet the horses?

We can arrange stable tours if you are interested – please ask a member of the team. Do not enter the stables or attempt to touch or feed any of the horses in their stables or paddocks on your own. Horses can bite and kick, even if you are experienced with animals.

Greener Camping Club

What is the Greener Camping Club and why do I need a membership?

In order to comply with countryside planning policy, Wytch Wood Camping operates as a Greener Camping Club members-only camp site. When you book your holiday with us, you will be enrolled as a member of the Club. At least one person per pitch must be a Greener Camping Club member, so if multiple pitches are booked in together, a name must be nominated for the membership for each pitch.

I am already a member, why am I being asked to pay my membership fee again?

At present we are not able to offer a way around this on our booking system. Existing members should identify that they are already members at time of booking and supply the name in which their membership is registered. Your membership fee will be refunded after booking, or you can nominate for your £12 to be used as credit to use on site for firewood, food or activities. You can also book via email rather than directly online, with payment via a secure bank transfer, then you will not be charged the membership fee.

You may also not have a valid membership. Memberships are valid for 12 months from date of issue – see next questions.

How long is my membership valid for?

If you got your membership between January and the end of August then your Greener Camping Club membership is valid until the end of the calendar year in which it is issued. It is not valid for 12 months.

If you got your membership between September and end of December, it will be valid for the next calendar year as well.

I signed up for my membership in September, is it valid for the next calendar year?

If you got your membership in September then it will be valid for the rest of the calendar year and the whole of the next calendar year. In this case you would not need to get another for bookings in the next calendar year.

I got a membership last year, why do I need another one this year?

You must have a valid membership at the time your booking is due to take place. Memberships must be renewed each calendar year. If you are unsure if your membership is valid, we can check this for you on the GCC database.

What are the benefits to being a Greener Camping Club member?

The Club was established by people with a passion for sustainable, eco-friendly camping holidays. Each certificated site must meet a strict set of criteria and commit to being managed in a sustainable and ethical way. This ensures you receive a consistent quality of site and experience when you visit a GCC site. All sites are small scale and guarantee low density, well-spaced pitches, access to facilities available, recycling and green measures.

Membership costs £12 for the calendar year and gives you access to some of the greenest campsites in the UK. It also includes participation in the Club’s “Trees for Life” scheme, whereby a tree is planted for every member we enrol.

You must be a member to visit any of the Greener Camping Club certificated sites – currently over 160 across England and Wales. You only need to purchase one membership per calendar year. You can see all certified sites on the Greener Camping Club website.

What facilities are available ?

Toilets

Each pitch has it’s own compost toilet. They are cleaned regularly but you are responsible for their correct use. There is also a public compost toilet near the communal area. Guests are requested to only use their allocated loo, or the public one.

Showers

There are three hot showers for all guests to use. The only pitch with its own shower is the glamping tent, Birdsong. Showers are available from 8am to 8pm. Water is switched off at all other times. Faith in Nature products are supplied for guests to use in the showers during their stay; they are biodegradable and do not harm the environment as shower water goes directly into a soakaway in the ground.

Washups

The Wytch Wood washing-up area houses our three stainless steel sinks – reclaimed from an old dairy! Our washing-up area uses hot water and ‘Green Bear‘ biologically-friendly washing-up liquid.

Hot water is provided, but please use prudently and don’t run the hot water continuously.

Do your pitches have electric hookups?

All pitches are standard grass pitches. There are no electric hook-ups available in the field at all.  However, we have three charging points set up in the communal barn for you to use to keep your devices charged.

Music & Noise

Wytch Wood is a quiet site. No amplified music is allowed on-site and respectful levels of noise are required at all times, especially after dark.
