The Somerset Food Trail Festival celebrates the best, most sustainably produced local food. It’s the first of its kind: a countywide event focused specifically on our more nature-friendly farmers and artisan producers. The local food heroes who are leading the transition to a new era of regenerative, ‘agroecological’ farming, to cut emissions, restore wildlife and produce better, tastier, more nourishing food.
The Somerset Food Trail Festival celebrates the farms, landscapes, people and places behind Somerset’s most nature-friendly food and drink. This year’s theme is ‘feasts and tastings’ to get everyone trying fantastic Somerset produce.
We are hosting two wood-fired feasting events as part of the Somerset Food Trail. Both events are open to camping guests, members of our local community and visitors from further afield.
The campsite is set within Blackmore Farm; a family-run, working sheep farm and part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme for over 20 years. The sheep raised on the farm graze across a mix of pastures and are a mix of native and commercial breeds. Operating without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, the farm embraces a wide range of habitats to encourage bio diversity. Space has been left for wildlife, flora and fungi to flourish.
Wytch Wood has taken up the ’30-mile Feast Challenge’ – where most of the ingredients have been sourced from a 30-mile radius. In fact most of the produce is from the farm or neighbours. Wytch Wood sources majority of food and drink suppliers from within 15 miles, so not such a big challenge for us!
After a welcome drink of Elderflower fizz, take your seat under the trees and enjoy a a mezze style sharing feast. The star of the show will be a whole Blackmore lamb, slow cooked over wood, by local fire aficionados Assado Fire Kitchen from Bridport. Served up with fresh dishes and salads made using foraged, home grown and local produce plus flat breads made fresh in our wood fired oven. Finish off with a wood fired fruity dessert and DIY smores if you can fit them in!
Sip a cool welcome cocktail under the trees, find your seat at our communal sharing tables and enjoy your summer feast. Celebrating all the beautiful summer produce of the area, a mix of hot and cold mezze style sharing dishes will be served accompanied by delicious fresh flat breads from our wood fired oven. All dishes will be meat free and fabulous. Finish off with a fruity dessert and DIY smores if there is room!
Tickets will cost £30 per person and include all your food and a welcome cocktail.
Please get in touch at [email protected] to register your interest or to book your place.
We’ll be posting more information about the feasts and how to book over the coming weeks. Get the latest updates on our blog, Instagram and Facebook.
