7 Benefits of Woodland Camping & How To Do It Right

Woodland camping, especially in our secluded woodland areas , offers a unique experience with several benefits:

1. Connection with Nature:

Being immersed in a natural environment allows campers to disconnect from urban life and reconnect with the natural world. It promotes mindfulness and reduces stress levels.

2. Seclusion and Privacy:

Unlike crowded campsites, camping in secluded woodland areas provides privacy and a sense of exclusivity. This solitude allows campers to fully unwind and enjoy their surroundings without disturbance.

3. Freedom and Flexibility:

Named as one of Time Out’s ‘Best UK Campsites’, Wytch Wood Camping is a peaceful retreat surrounded by woodland and wildflowers. With options for tents, hammock tents, trailer tents and campervans the choice is yours for your next camping adventure.

4. Adventure and Exploration:

It encourages exploration of lesser-known areas and hidden gems of the Somerset countryside. This sense of adventure adds excitement and discovery to the camping experience.

5. Skills Development:

Woodland camping requires certain skills such as fire building, camp making and minimal impact camping practices. It provides an opportunity to hone these skills and gain confidence in outdoor survival.

6. Environmental Awareness:

Wytch Wood is an eco-friendly campsite practising a ‘Leave No Trace’ principle. This promotes environmental consciousness and responsible outdoor behaviour, ensuring the preservation of natural habitats. Award-winning for our green credentials, we offer a low-impact and sustainable option for your next UK camping break.

7. Cost-Effective:

Woodland camping can be a budget-friendly option compared to traditional campsites, as it often involves no fees or minimal expenses.

For those interested in exploring wild-ish camping in secluded woodland pitches in Somerset, Wytch Wood provides a chance for you to experience these benefits firsthand, ensuring a memorable and enriching outdoor adventure.

Amazing quiet and peaceful site with only twelve pitches, each with their own loo. Showers and washing up areas very clean. There is an 'honesty shop' which was very useful and the host Elise was so helpful and welcoming. Thoroughly recommend if you are looking for a peaceful break.

We absolutely love Wytch Wood campsite. It is our favorite campsite of the UK and we have been here 3 times yet because of that. Elise is a wonderful host, makes you feel very welcome. The site is beautiful and all the activities (yoga, workshops for children/adults, pizza night) are great. Her staff is very friendly & helpful. And last but not least…so many lovely animals in the field and their own ‘fairytale like’ forrest (sheep, horses, bats, deer, owls). Fantastic! Would really recommend staying here.

Wauw wauw wauw. We’ll be back!

Beautiful location and wonderful low-impact facilities. We loved the pizza, foraging for wild strawberries, paddling in the stream and lying in hammocks in the woods. One of the best campsites we’ve ever been to.

This campsite is fantastic! We had a lovely pitch right by the stream and enjoyed the fire pit. The facilities were excellent with compost toilets at each pitch. Unfortunately, we missed out on the pizza, coffee shop and bar as they were closed during our visit outside of school holidays and during the working week. We highly recommend this site.

As others have said, it's a lovely secluded place and well kept. Camping area surrounded by trees. Kids can run about. Facilities are great for a low impact site; hot water, shelters and pizza preordered etc.
